Pinyin Four-Line Worksheet Generator: how to use it

Choose examples or enter your own pinyin

Select examples by initials, finals, whole-recognition syllables and other categories, or separate your own items with spaces, such as b p m f or mā má mǎ mà. The tool supports ü, ǖ, ǘ, ǚ and ǜ, and uses the same Hanyu Pinyin examples as the Simplified Chinese version.

You can enter up to 120 groups with at most 16 characters per group. The normal practice font uses single-storey a and g. Longer syllables receive wider layout space; check the preview before printing.

What should I check before practicing pinyin?

The examples are handwriting material for Hanyu Pinyin, the romanization system for Mandarin Chinese. They are not a graded course or a list of every pronunciation. Unmarked spellings do not necessarily indicate the neutral tone, and some tone-placement exercises are not independent syllables.

The tool does not convert Chinese characters to pinyin, correct spellings or verify pronunciation. Check syllables and tone marks against your teaching materials before arranging tracing or dictation practice.

How do I print the four-line guides at the correct size?

Download the PDF and select the same Letter or A4 paper size used for the worksheet, portrait orientation and Actual size or 100% scaling. Avoid Fit to page, which can shrink the guides. Check that all four lines remain visible in the print preview.
